About Me

Vicki Usherwood

'I was born and educated in central London. As a child, constantly painting and drawing, I was first inspired by the artists who displayed their work along the railings at Hide Park on Sunday mornings. Propelled by a desire to paint, I absorbed myself in art. I studied and was awarded a Diploma at the London Guild Hall University. I currently work part time as a Teaching Assistant supporting special needs pupils with their creative arts.

I am enchanted by Derbyshire’s beauty and ever changing seasonal colours. In my spare time I walk in the Peak District, stopping to sketch and photograph; to capture the scenery and ever-changing light. I delight in the exposed stone, the craggy edges and the picture perfect landscapes. I have a real passion for using vibrant colour and bold images to create impressions of the countryside.

I predominantly work in watercolour and acrylic inks on paper. These medium allows me to capture a natural glow and transparency of colour. Recently I have been inspired to use pen and ink to highlight the bold structures and fabric of the local landscape, which continually stimulates my creativity.'
